All White Rose Holiday Cottages are situated near Sleights
and Whitby. Sleights is a residential area approximately 3 miles
from Whitby on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. The River
Esk runs along the bottom of the valley and the village is situated
on its bank sides and the hillsides above, there are many pleasant
walks within the village itself and the surrounding area.
The local shops available are a licenced grocery store, "Radfords"
- a high class butchers also selling fruit, vegetables, bread,
freshly made cakes, puddings and many other items, Bothams Bakers,
Post Office, antique shops, garage, the "Plough" pub, fish and
chip shop/cafe, hairdressers and 2 doctors surgeries (one at the
top of the village, the other at the lower end). Sleights railway
station is situated near where the bridge crosses the River Esk,
the Salmon Leap Hotel can also be found here. On the other side
of the river is the cafe known as the "River Gardens". This is
a favourite haunt for many people both local and visitors to have
refreshments and maybe a game of putting (golf) and buy some unusual
plants from Pat Perry and family (see
the map of the village).
The area is steeped in history with such famous people as Captain
Cook, St. Hilda and the Abbey, and more recently for the Cleveland
Way. Heartbeat is filmed around the area, in particular at Goathland
which is known as "Aidensfield" in the TV series.
